The Month of Photography Tokyo observed its 25th anniversary in 2020.
Cosponsored by PSJ and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, supported by Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Agency for Cultural Affairs,
Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Embassy of the People's Republic of China,
and with the supports of numerous corporations, organizations, individuals,
various events and projects listed below were scheduled in May and June.
Although many of those were either postponed or canceled due to the effect
of world-widely spread new coronavirus, the selection of photographers for
the Photography Day exhibition 2020, and the publication of the catalogue
were Implemented.
[Implemented Projects]
- The Photography Day exhibition 2020
Out of 2,186 entries by 910 applicants, total of 202 winning images were
selected by the selection committee, SATO Michiko, and SUZUKI Kazuo. Awards
such as Minister of Foreign Affairs Award, Minister of the Environment
Award, Award of Excellence, and Co-sponsor Award were presented to winners.
Those winning photographs were scheduled to be exhibited at the following
venues, but canceled due to the prevention for the spread of new coronavirus
infection; Mitsumura Graphic Gallery (Osaki, Tokyo), Higashikawa Bunka Gallery
(Higashikawa - the Town of Phogoraphy, Hokkaido), Komorokougen Museum, Fuji
Photo Gallery Niigata, Wakita Gallery Nagoya, Fujifilm Photo Salon Osaka,
Fukushima Telsa, and others.
- Publication of Catalogue
The catalogue to summarize ¡ÈThe Month of Photography 2020¡É was created and
published. The catalogues were distributed gratis to related organizations
including foreign embassies, museums, galleries, and governmental departments.
Those were sold to photographic enthusiasts for 1,500 JPY per copy as well.

- International Exhibition - ¡ÈPhotographers in Asia 2020 - Jiangsu, China¡É
An exhibition ¡ÈPhotographers in Asia¡É was founded in 2004 in purpose of cultural
exchange with the Asian countries with photographic cultures which hardly
to be covered in Japan. This exhibition has contributed to the mutual understanding
of Japan and respective countries by introducing noted places, historic
sites, traditional cultures, and people¡Çs life through the photographs
taken by each country¡Çs photographers. Since its foundation, fifteen countries
were introduced. From the new perspective, we re-examined closer neighboring
countries in Asia , and picked the Jiangsu province of the People¡Çs Republic
of China as the subject for ¡ÈPhotographers in Asia 2020¡É. Exhibitions were
scheduled at the following venues, but postponed to 2021 due to the prevention
for the spread of new coronavirus infection.

An exhibition was planned which anyone can participate in the exhibition
by purchasing a panel which was to be sold by PSJ (1,000 JPY a sheet). The
exhibition was canceled due to the prevention for the spread of new coronavirus
infection.
- Photography Day; Reception
A reception including PSJ Award recipients ceremony, The Month of Photography
2020 opening ceremony, and decorations and medals recipients celebration,
was scheduled to hold at the Sasagawa Hall on June 1. The reception was
canceled due to the prevention for the spread of new coronavirus infection.
